Today, many companies have recognised that there is gain to be had, both in time-to-market and profitability, with employing standard communication solutions. The communication solution often defines the backbone that future products and functionality will rely upon. However, deciding on a communication solution for current and future products is a very challenging task since the communication backbone has a wide range of requirements, such as ease of use, performance, reliability, extendibility, and ease of maintenance.

In this workshop we will get the possibility to gain insight in several different aspects of communication solutions from three world-leading companies. Ranging from solutions in industrial control, trucks, to solutions for remote control and monitoring of physical processes via mobile phones.

Thus the objectives are:

  • Give some history behind different solutions, the current state of practice and some hints for the future
  • Share knowledge and experience between different companies/applications with respect to communication solutions.
  • Discuss how to trade cost and different functional and non-functional quality attributes.
  • Define common activities to support competence build up in the area.
  • To find common solutions and challenges.
