Younger researcher careers

PROGRESS has provided opportunities for many young researchers to develop their careers; as research leaders both in academia and in industry. Two categories can be identified:

  • a) young researchers already on the way to become senior researchers, and
  • b) young researchers that recently obtained their PhD and are starting to build their carrier.

The following researchers are at least in part due to PROGRESS already senior researchers or are on the way to become senior researchers (to indicate the career advancement, information about the current situation is contrasted with the situation in 2005):

  • Mikael Sjödin, Software Expert at CC-Systems AB and Researcher at MDH in 2005, was appointed Professor of Real-Time Systems at MDH in 2006.
  • Paul Pettersson, Senior Lecturer at Uppsala University in 2005, was recruited within PROGRESS and appointed Professor of Real-Time Systems Modelling and Verification at MDH in 2006.
  • Kristina Lundqvist, Associate Professor at MIT in Boston in 2005, was recruited within PROGRESS and appointed Professor of Dependable Software Engineering at MDH in 2007.
  • Sasikumar Punnekkat, Senior Lecturer at MDH in 2005, was appointed Professor of Dependable Software Engineering at MDH in 2007.
  • Jakob Axelsson, Program manager, Research & Advanced Engineering of Electrical and Electronic Systems at Volvo Car Corporation and Adjunct Professor at MDH in 2005, was appointed Professor of Computer Science at MDH in 2010.
  • Thomas Nolte, PhD student at MDH in 2005, was appointed Docent at MDH in 2009 and Professor of Embedded Real-Time Systems at MDH in 2011.
  • Magnus Larsson, R&D Research Program Manager software architecture and processes at ABB Corporate Research in 2005, now Manager for software architecture and user experience at ABB Corporate Research, was appointed adjunct Professor at MDH in 2007.
  • Tiberiu Seceleanu, Assistant Professor at Univ. of Turku in 2005, now Principal Scientist at ABB Corporate Research, and Adjunct Professor of Software Engineering at MDH (appointed 2011).
The following researchers have started to build their careers in PROGRESS:
  • Cristina Seceleanu, Senior Lecturer at MDH, co-supervising six PhD students
  • Jan Carlson, Senior Lecturer at MDH, co-supervising five PhD students
  • Antonio Cicchetti, Researcher at MDH, co-supervising three PhD students
  • Radu Dobrin, Senior Lecturer and Division chair at MDH, co-supervising three PhD students
  • Dag Nyström, Senior Lecturer and Division chair at MDH, co-supervising one PhD student
  • Daniel Sundmark, Senior Lecturer at MDH, co-supervising four PhD students
