August 27-30, 2002 Mälardalen Real-Time Research Centre, Mälardalen University, Västerås, Sweden WORK-IN-PROGRESS SESSION Call for Contributions Deadline: July 1, 2002 Factory communications is a rapidly evolving field, both in practical application and research. Networking and automation are currently major driving forces, and there are many open problems still to be solved. In the current days there is an enormous eagerness towards adding emerging information technologies to the traditional factory communication solutions. Significantly, this eagerness applies to all levels of the factory communications hierarchy. One of the focuses of this year's edition of the WFCS Work-In-Progress (WIP) session will be on the role of emerging information technologies in factory communication systems (FCS). Contributions to the special WIP session at 4th IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication are sought. The Work-In-Progress session will be devoted to the presentation of new and on-going projects in factory communications research and applications. The prime purpose of this session is to provide researchers an opportunity to discuss their evolving ideas and gather feedback thereon from the factory communications community at large. Contributors to the WIP session will be asked to give a short presentation of their work and prepare a poster for the WIP discussion forum that will be held after the presentations. Also, accepted submissions will be included in special WIP proceedings (published as a volume of the MRTC report series) which will be distributed to all conference participants, and will be available electronically on the WFCS2002 Web site. Submissions to WFCS2002 WIP session should describe original on-going work and should be sent in the IEEE double column format (not exceeding 4 pages) by e-mail to one of the WIP Session Co-Chairmen: Eduardo Tovar (emt@dei.isep.ipp.pt) or Mats Björkman (Mats.Bjorkman@mdh.se).
